LDPR leader demands arrest of Russian lawmaker who visited USA

Dmitry Gudkov visited the USA where he gathered information about the life of Russian children living in U.S. foster families

MOSCOW, March 12 (Itar-Tass) – Leader of the Liberal Democratic Party /LDPR/ Vladimir Zhirinovsky demanded the arrest of lawmaker Dmitry Gudkov Jr for "high treason," following the latter's recent visit to the United States.

The house committee for procedures should "demand that Gudkov give up his mandate," while the committee for security must facilitate the opening of a criminal case against Gudkov, a member of A Just Russia Party," Zhirinovsky said during a 10-minute speech in parliament on Tuesday.

"You have the right to hate the regime. But there's the government, the country, the regime, so give up your mandate and get lost," he said addressing his opponent. In his opinion, if a U.S. congressman came to Russia and negotiated as Gudkov did in the USA, he would be immediately placed under arrest upon return. "I suggest doing the same," he said.

Comparing Gudkov with General Vlasov, Zhirinovsky reminded that he was "part of the government," yet he travels to the USA "which is preparing a war against our country;" he goes there, bows to them and hold talks."

Dmitry Gudkov visited the USA where he gathered information about the life of Russian children living in U.S. foster families. In an interview to the mass media, the parliamentarian said he had met with U.S. congressmen and reached accords with them to cooperate against corruption in Russian branches of power.
