MOSCOW, March 11 (Itar-Tass) – Many external sponsors prevent the Syrian opposition from starting the dialogue and ceasing violence in Syria, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
At the meeting with representative of the Syrian National Coordination Committee on Monday, Lavrov said, “The situation in Syria is not becoming better although many people realise the need to cease violence and start the dialogue.”
“But many people, including external sponsors of the deadly opposition, try to prevent this process,” the Russian foreign minister said. “That is why we are sure that your efforts aimed at uniting the patriotic opposition makes contribution to the process that we want to realize. The conference in Paris worked out its constructive approaches towards starting the dialogue,” Lavrov said.
He recalled that the government made public its ideas. “We want to do our best to unite these processes,” he added.
“The essential is that all issues should be resolved by Syrians themselves without any prescriptions from outside,” Lavrov stressed. “Syrians themselves should decide the fate of their country and certain politicians,” the Russian minister said.
