MOSCOW, March 11 (Itar-Tass) – The Russian Investigation Committee (SK) summoned State Duma deputy from A Just Russia Oleg Mikheyev for an interrogation on March 12 as a suspect in the criminal case over a multimillion fraud, spokesman for the Russian Investigation Committee Vladimir Markin told Itar-Tass on Monday.
“The detectives from the Main Investigation Department of the Russian Investigation Committee are planning to interrogate him as a suspect in the criminal case on March 12,” Markin said.
“The detectives found that deputy Oleg Mikheyev is involved in the illegal acquisition of 14 real estate sites of the Volgograd engine-building plant to the tune of more than 500 million roubles, an attempted misappropriation through fraud of 2.1 billion roubles from Promsvyazbank, and the obstruction of justice (the detectives found that he was trying to exert pressure on the judge – Itar-Tass),” the SK spokesman recalled.
On February 19, the State Duma satisfied an address from Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika and agreed to strip Mikheyev of deputy immunity and to open a criminal case against him and involve him in the criminal case as a defendant. As many as 297 deputies voted for this decision, 59 deputies voted against it and four deputies abstained.
On March 7, Chairman of the Russian Investigation Committee Alexander Bastrykin opened a criminal case against Oleg Mikheyev under three articles of the Russian Criminal Code for fraud (Article 159 Part 4 of the Russian Criminal Code), attempted fraud (Article 30 Part 3 and Article 159 Part 4) and the obstruction of justice (Article 294 Part 3).
Meanwhile, the lawmaker insists on his innocence and claims that the detectives do not want to communicate with him. In particular, the deputy claimed that the deal over 14 real estate sites of the Volgograd engine building plant was effectuated “in compliance with all norms and requirements of the law that is verified by 46 court rulings.” Mikheyev claimed to be an injured party in the fraud case of 2.1 billion roubles from Promsvyazbank.
Speaking in the State Duma, the A Just Russia deputy claimed that the accusations against him “remain an absolutely unclear case for him.” In his view, commercial structures deliberately misled the detectives.
