KEMEROVO, March 9 (Itar-Tass) – Heavy snowfalls have forced the emergency services to restrict traffic on the M-53 federal highway, the regional emergency department’s press service told Itar-Tass.
Traffic has been closed in the direction to Novosibirsk and Tomsk. It has been restricted in the direction to Barnaul and Biisk due to the bad weather conditions, the press service said.
Forecasters say such weather will remain unchanged within the 24 hours. Emergency services urged residents of the Kemerovo region to refrain from trips by cars round the region and outside it. “Residents will be recommended to return back on checkpoints,” the press service said.
Chief of the regional State Road Traffic Safety Inspection Alexander Revetnev said the traffic jam on the M-53 highway had been conditioned by heavy snowfalls.
At present, road police officers try to organise traffic on this section, Revetnev said.
Till now traffic on the highway has not been resumed yet.
