Early presidential elections to be held in Venezuela

Last December Chavez appointed Maduro as his political successor before Chavez’s departure to Cuba

CARACAS, March 6 (Itar-Tass) – After the death of Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez Vice-President Nicolas Maduro is to head the country, then early presidential elections are to be held within 30 days, Foreign Minister Elias Jaua said in an interview with the television channel TeleSUR on Tuesday.

He recalled that last December Chavez appointed Maduro as his political successor before Chavez’s departure to Cuba, where he underwent the fourth surgery for the last 18 months. “This is a covenant that Comandante and President Hugo Chavez left to us on December 8, when he asked us, all Venezuelans, to support Nicolas Maduro, and we did it,” the minister said.
