Kuzbassrazrezugol denies blasting works were done at Bachatsky coalmine

The seismic station in the Kuzbass coal basin registered a seismic event near the town of Belovo overnight to Tuesday

KEMEROVO, March 5 (Itar-Tass) – The coalmining company Kuzbassrazrezugol, in which the Bachatsky coalmining subsidiary is incorporated, did not do the mine blasting works at its enterprises overnight to Tuesday, head of the public relations department of the company Larisa Beresneva told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.

“Industrial blasts are banned in the coal pits of the company already for several years,” she said.

The seismic station in the Kuzbass coal basin registered a seismic event near the town of Belovo overnight to Tuesday, the press service of the regional emergency situation department reported earlier. The alarm call came to the duty officer at 21:30 Moscow time on Monday. “The seismic stations registered the seismic event as an industrial blast near the town Belovo at the Bachatsky coal pit. The ground tremors measured 3.2 points on the Richter scale,” the press service said. Meanwhile, the Altai-Sayany branch of the Geophysical Service of the Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported that the seismic event measured 3.8 points was registered. The incident was also identified as a blast. According to the map, which is posted on the website of the subsidiary, the epicentre of the seismic event was located in the central part of the Kemerovo Region.

Several residents from the town Belovo told Itar-Tass that they were feeling as the walls of their houses were shaking and were thinking that an earthquake occurred at about one hour in the night on Tuesday.
