All schools in Syberian Tyumen closed amid flu epidemic

About seven percent of the local population have been ill with flu or other acute respiratory diseases

TYUMEN, March 4 (Itar-Tass) – All schools have been closed on Monday for a week because of a flu epidemic in Russia’s Siberian city of Tyumen, the first deputy director of the regional healthcare department told a news conference.

According to Natalia Brynza, the epidemic threshold has been exceeded in the region by 16 percent, and in Tyumen - by 22 percent. All in all, about seven percent of the local population have been ill with flu or other acute respiratory diseases.

This is almost half of the cases fixed last year. Specialists attribute this modest figure to a vaccination campaign, as 42 percent of the population were vaccinated in autumn.
