MOSCOW, March 3 (Itar-Tass) – Six teenagers are entrapped under the avalanche in the Russian Republic of Tuva, the national emergency situation management centre told Itar-Tass on Sunday.
“According to updated reports, six children under entrapped under the avalanche. The avalanche is 5-6 metres deep, 200 metres wide and 600 metres long,” a source in the Russian national emergency situation management centre said.
Forty-eight people are working at the avalanche fall site. The team of rescuers is growing and will be beefed up to 120 people. “The rescuers from the Tuva and Southern Siberian search-and-rescue units and the Siberian regional centre of sport training and rehabilitation of rescuers Yergaki rushed to the avalanche site,” the source said.
An emergency airplane An-74 took off at 18:00 Moscow time with the task force of the Siberian regional emergency situation centre and the rescuers from the Siberian regional search-and-rescue unit.
