Heat supply resumed in Tiksi, Yakutia

Life in the town of about 10,000 people has returned to normal

VLADIVOSTOK, March 1 (Itar-Tass) - The work to resume heat supply in the Arctic town of Tiksi, Yakutia, was completed on Friday.

The heat systems in 32 buildings and the boiler room work as normal this Friday.

The regime of alert is lifted for the authorities, forces and services of the district, in accordance with the decision of the administration head of the Bulun district, which includes the Arctic town, the Russian Emergencies Ministry's department in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) reports.

One of three boilers in Tiksi's boiler room stopped working on February 6. On February 14, 32 buildings (158 flats) were left without heat in 50-degree frosts.

Fifteen teams of specialists, 163 people, from all over Yakutia arrived in the town to help. They worked in shifts 24 hours a day to replace radiators in the buildings and repair the lines damaged by frosts.

People warmed their homes with heating pads and stoves.

Hot water with a temperature over 70 degrees Centigrade is running from the boiler room to the repaired heat system this Friday.
