YEKATERINBURG, February 26 (Itar-Tass) – A total of 92.6 percent of buildings damaged in a meteor shower in Russia’s Chelyabinsk region have been restored, the press service of the regional emergencies ministry told Tass on Tuesday.
“The radiation background is normal,” it reported. “Municipal administrations have started receiving applications for assistance, and in particular there has already been 2,746 such applications,” the press service said.
A meteor shower was fixed on February 15 in five Russian regions, including the Tyumen, Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk, Kurgan regions and Bashkiria.
Almost 1,500 people sought medical aid in the Chelyabinsk region, including 311 children. Preliminary damage is estimated at one billion roubles.
