MOSCOW, February 25 (Itar-Tass) - - Police have stopped the activity of 36 gambling clubs in Moscow and the Moscow Region. As ITAR-TASS learnt at the press service of the Russian Interior Ministry on Monday, criminals’ profits exceeded 100 million rubles.
A large-scale operation was carried out in several stages. “Police carried out a series of events which resulted in the liquidation of 36 gambling clubs, which illegally operated in the Russian capital and a number of cities in the Moscow Region: Pushkion, Shchelkovo, Korolev, Podolsk, Khimki, Balashikha, Reutovo, Noginsk and Ivanteyevka,” the ministry’ spokesman said.
Some of the gambling clubs operated under the mask of bookmaker’s offices, restaurants and internet-cafes, as well as at private apartments where illegal poker tournaments and other games of chance were organized.
Police confiscated a total of more than 440 gambling consoles, seven poker tables and 28 slot machines, as well as electronic information carriers, confirming the organizers’ illegal activity, as well as over one million rubles.
As the source specified, the operation was carried out by officers of the Main Economic Security and Anticorruption Department of the Russian Interior Ministry jointly with their colleagues from the similar departments of the capital and the Moscow Region.
