Suspected murderer of Irkutsk region schoolgirl placed under arrest

The body of the girl with signs of violent death was found in an industrial site on February 8

IRKUTSK, February 20 (Itar-Tass) - The man suspected of murdering five-form pupil Ulyana Alexeyeva from the town of Shelekhov, Irkutsk region, has been placed under arrest, the regional department of the Investigative Committee told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.

The body of the girl with signs of violent death was found in an industrial site on February 8. Last Monday, a 47-year-old resident of Angarsk with a record of convictions for robberies was detained on suspicion of raping and murdering the child. He was on parole and turned up at a police station for monthly check wearing the same clothes as on the day of murder, and was recognized by identikit.

On Wednesday, he was charged under penal code articles 131, Part 4 /"rape"/ and Article 105, Part 2 /"murder"/. The Shelekhovo district court met the investigator's petition to place the suspect under arrest.

The detainee partially admitted his guilt but denied strangling the schoolgirl.

An SK official said the suspect is married and has a daughter. He has been unemployed.

"Earlier, a hypnotist worked with the persons who might have some useful information for the investigators. An identikit was thus composed. The investigators obtained incontrovertible proof of the suspect's involvement in the crime thanks to DNA test, which yielded positive results," the SK said.

In an identification session, the first witness recognized the detainee as the suspected criminal, police said.

Ulyana Alexeyeva went to the art center at around 17:00, on February 7 and did not return home. More than 200 people took part in the search. Her body with signs of violent death was found in an open pit of Shelekhov's industrial site.
