MOSCOW, February 17 (Itar-Tass) – The crew of the tanker Marine Alliance that went dead in the Sea of Japan (the East Sea) on Sunday has managed to fix the problem and now the tanker is heading for its home port, a spokesman for the Russian emergencies ministry told Itar-Tass.
According to earlier reports, the tanker bound for Nakhodka went dead in the Sea of Japan because of the failure of its main engine. The tanker was carrying 782 tons of fuel oil. The tanker has a crew of 20, all Russian national. The tanker was not damaged. Another tanker, the Georgiy Froyer sailed off to tow the distressed tanker.
“At 17:30 Moscow time, the Marine Alliance crew managed to fix the engine and is heading for the home port, accompanied by the Georgiy Froyer,” the spokesman said.
