MOSCOW, February 17 (Itar-Tass) – The Civic Platform Party may nominate head of the City Without Drugs Foundation Yevgeny Roizman for the post of Yekaterinburg mayor, member of the federal civil committee of the party Rifat Shaikhutdinov told Itar-Tass on Sunday.
“Roizman is well-known in Yekaterinburg and his chances are high,” he said, noting that the nomination of candidates will begin no earlier than in May, the consultations are in progress so far.
Yevgeny Roizman told Itar-Tass that he discussed the prospects of his running in the mayoral elections with leader of the Civic Platform Party Mikhail Prokhorov. In his words, the situation with the City Without Drugs Foundation makes him run for mayor.
“We were speaking with Mikhail and take the situation in the way that we should be ready for contact fighting. Therefore, I do not rule out that I will just have to run for mayor to reliev pressure from my associates and to try to make my city better,” he said.
The activities of the City Without Drugs Foundation has recently come under surveillance of the law enforcement agencies. Several criminal cases were opened. Meanwhile, Roizman stated repeatedly that this is a political persecution.
