Margelov denies he owns real estate abroad

The Chairman of the Federation Council’s international affairs committee has told Itar-Tass he owns only the property that has declared

MOSCOW, February 14 (Itar-Tass) – The Chairman of the Federation Council’s international affairs committee, presidential envoy for African affairs Mikhail Margelov, has denied rumors he allegedly owns undeclared real estate in the United States.

On February 13 Russian bloggers actively discussed what one of the users described as scanned pagers from US real estate registers saying that one Mikhail Margelov owns three apartments in Florida and California. Some bloggers suspected that the man in question was Russia’s senior legislator. In particular, they were angry at the fact real estate was absent from Margelov’s 2011 tax declaration.

Margelov has told Itar-Tass he owns only the property that has declared.

“The rumors I have some properties abroad have nothing to do with the reality. I can say it is nothing but slander. I have never owned real estate in other countries, nor shall I ever have any,” he added.
