Five suspected killers of 2 children in Dagestan detained

"The required investigating actions are taken against them,” the press centre reported

MOSCOW, February 12 (Itar-Tass) - Law-enforcement agents detained five persons suspected of killing the sons of a Dagestan police officer in the village of Beledzhi, Derbent district.

"Police detained five suspected killers of the children in an operation. They are being questioned," the press service of the Russian Interior Ministry told Itar-Tass.

"At around 21:45, Moscow time, on February 11, a police Sergeant, after a visit to his neighbors' together with his wife and daughters, returned home to find the bodies of his sons, aged 9, and 11, with stab wounds to the neck and stomach.

"The killers stole jewelry and some 300,000 roubles from the Sergeant's home," the Interior Ministry said.

Criminal proceedings were opened over murder of two or more persons and robbery.

Meanwhile, the regional department of the Investigative Committee /SK/ did not confirm the detention of five suspects.

"The information on the detention of the persons suspected of the murder of policeman's children in the village of Belidzhi, Derbent district, does not correspond to reality," the regional SK department told Tass.

Earlier in the day, Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev conveyed his condolences to the relatives of the murdered children and demanded that all measures be taken to solve the crime.

"I'd like to express my heartfelt condolences to the family of the murdered kids; and I ask to take all measures to solve the crime and provide the necessary assistance. I'm confident we'll solve it /the murder/," Kolokoltsev said at meeting of the government commission over crime prevention.
