South Korea estimates at 6-7 kilotons blast power of North Korean nuclear test

The country’s Defence Ministry also reported that the magnitude of the artificial earthquake registered on Tuesday reached 4.9 points

TOKYO, February 12 (Itar-Tass) – The South Korean Defence Ministry believes that the blast power of the North Korean nuclear test makes 6-7 kilotons, Japanese media reported with the reference to a spokesperson of the South Korean Defence Ministry on Tuesday. The South Korean Defence Ministry earlier reported that the blast yield of the nuclear test reached about 10 kilotons, but then adjusted this figure.

The country’s Defence Ministry also reported that the magnitude of the artificial earthquake registered on Tuesday reached 4.9 points. The magnitude of the earthquake was earlier estimated at 5.2 points.

This was already the third underground nuclear test in North Korea. The first two nuclear tests were carried out in 2006 and 2009.
