Medvedev met president of Karachayevo-Cherkessia

Medvedev called attention to the republic’s social development, especially the construction of pre-school children’s institutions

СHERKESSK, February 8 (Itar-Tass) - Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on Friday met Rashid Temrezov, the president of the Republic of Karachayevo-Cherkessia, to discuss demographic policy and the development of children’s institutions.

Medvedev said that agriculture was playing a special role in the region. He praised the experience of the Yuzhnoye (southern) agricultural complex, which the prime minister had visited prior to the meeting. Medvedev said that enterprises like the Yuzhnoye developed the investment potential of Karachayevo-Cherkessia and the whole region.

Medvedev also called attention to the republic’s social development, especially the construction of pre-school children’s institutions, given that Karachayevo-Cherkessia has a good birthrate. Temrezov said that 11,000 pre-school institutions had been built or repaired in 2012 and early 2013. The funds for the construction and repairs of 8,000 kindergartens had come from private investors. Though 8,000 children are still waiting for a place in a kindergarten, Temrezov assured Medvedev that the queue would be cut by 1,400 places in 2013. There’s great probability that queues in Karachayevo-Cherkessia will be liquidated completely a year earlier than the planned 2015.

Medvedev said it was necessary to pay more attention to investments in agriculture and develop minor commodity forms. He also called for increasing the livestock population of cattle and small cattle. “Anyway, it would be good if you reach Soviet levels in the production of lamb meat,” the prime minister emphasized.
