MOSCOW, February 8 (Itar-Tass) – The Moscow City Court on Friday sentenced retired Colonel of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Russian General Staff (GRU) Vladimir Kvachkov to 13 years in prison for an attempt to organise an armed uprising and the recruitment of its participants. The second defendant in the case, Alexander Kiselyov, was sentenced to 11 years in prison.
“Despite the position taken by defendants Kvachkov and Kiselyov, their guilt was proven during the trial,” Judge Pavel Melekhin stated.
During the sides’ pleadings in court, the prosecutor demanded that Kvachkov be sentenced to 14 years in a right security colony and Kiselyov – to 12 years, and have their freedom restricted for two years after serving their sentences. The prosecutor also demanded that the defendants be stripped of their military rank. He insisted that their guilt had been fully proven.
