Schools, kindergartens closed in Khanty-Mansi reg because of flu

There are 1,087.2 cases for 100,000 people, and the rate has been continuing rising since early January

TYUMEN, February 6 (Itar-Tass) - A flu epidemic is reported in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area.

Schools and some kindergartens were closed in the region on Wednesday.

The number of flu and other respiratory infection cases has risen above the epidemic beginning level. In the fifth week, the weekly rate exceeded the level by 26 percent. There are 1,087.2 cases for 100,000 people, and the rate has been continuing rising since early January, the region's chief sanitary medical official Maya Solovyova said.

The epidemic is reported from all the municipalities, but Pyt Yakh, Pokachi and the Sovetsky district, where there is no official monitoring of the epidemic situation.

The worst rates are reported from Surgut, Nizhnevartovsk, Langepas, Urai, Nefteyugansk, Khanty-Mansiisk and the Surgut and Khanty Mansiisk districts.

Laboratory tests in the region in January 2013 detected A(H1N1) virus in seven cases.
