Palestinian reconciliation may be achieved within few months - Abbas

"We hope that within the next few months the Palestinian people will regain their unity," he stressed

RAMALLAH (West Bank), February 4 (Itar-Tass) – Intra-Palestinian reconciliation may be achieved within the next few months, Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas said in an exclusive interview with Itar-Tass.

“At the beginning of last year we signed an agreement in Doha, and in that agreement we stated the clauses that we then fixed in Cairo in order to go into talks as the first step to achieve reconciliation,” the Palestinian Authority president said. “Next time this commission met on January 30, and prospects emerged for achieving intra-Palestinian reconciliation,” he said.

“As soon as the central election commission finishes its work in Gaza, we will immediately, within three months, pave the way for elections and for creating a government of national unity in order to once again sign agreements between Hamas and the Palestinian Authority,” Abbas reported. “And we hope that within the next few months the Palestinian people will regain their unity,” he stressed.
