MOSCOW, January 23 (Itar-Tass) — Russia’s Investigative Committee has dismissed media rumors the head of the contractor company, which was building a facility for the Defense Ministry, Sergei Amelin, died after being questioned over the Oboronservis case.
“In connection with the media rumors Sergei Amelin, the head of the contractor organization that was building a facility for the Defense Ministry in the Podolsk District, died after questioning I must say that in the course of the investigation of the criminal case of embezzlement in the Defense Ministry Amelin has not been summoned to the Chief Military Investigative Department or questioned there,” IC spokesman Vladimir Markin told Itar-Tass.
He said the case over embezzlement in the Defense Ministry was a large-scale one and the list of thefts and persons involved kept growing. The investigators had ever more questions they would like to put to witnesses and suspects.
"It is quite possible that Amelin might be questioned in the capacity of witness at some point. However, so far the investigators took no such action,” Markin said. “Therefore I believe it would be absolutely wrong to link Amelin’s death and the Oboronservis affair.”
Earlier a number of mass media said the general director of the company Stroiimpuls, Sergei Amelin, died on January 20 in his country home of after questioning.
