MOSCOW, January 22 (Itar-Tass) — Police detained the first deputy prefect of Moscow's southern district on suspicion of extortion of two million roubles from a business person, the Interior Ministry's press service told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.
"Agents of the Interior Ministry's main department for economic security and combating corruption /GUEBiPK/ detained the first deputy prefect of the South Administrative district and three intermediaries, suspected of extorting two million roubles from a representative of a commercial form, in exchange for not terminating a contract and securing the firm's victory at tenders held by the South District administration," a police official said.
The officials' intermediaries - his son and two unemployed citizens - were detained as they were taking the money.
The materials of the sting operation were forwarded to investigative bodies for taking a procedural decision.
"Investigators are continuing to ascertain additional episodes in the suspects' illegal activity," the interior ministry said.
