MOSCOW, January 19 (Itar-Tass) – The Russian government urged regional governors to adopt regional programmes aimed at improving the life of elderly people ion 2014-2018.
The move is follow-up on the meeting held in December 2012 that focused on how to make the life of elderly people better.
Regional programmes are drawn up on the basis of recommendations issued by the Ministry of Labour. Their purpose is to further improve social and health services for the elderly, especially in rural areas, as well as to promote a healthy way of life, develop social tourism, teach elderly people how to use computers and make computers available to them.
The Ministry of Health has been instructed to take, together with regional executive authorities, “additional measures to improve the quality and availability of health service for senior citizens, paying special attention to the training of nurses and doctors in the field of gerontology”.
The Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Sport will study the possibility of “developing tourist services for this category of citizens, make cultural, sport and tourist facilities and sites more available to them, and organise family events for people of different age groups”.
