Over 82,000 people participate in Epiphany bathing in Moscow

Epiphany bathing will continue till 14:00 Moscow time

MOSCOW, January 19 (Itar-Tass) - More than 82,000 people participated in outdoor Epiphany bathing in Moscow, the press service of the Emergencies Ministry's Moscow department told Itar-Tass.

According to the reports as of 08:00 Moscow time, 82,167 people have bathed in holes in ice, a ministry source said.

Epiphany bathing will continue till 14:00 Moscow time. There are 56 organized places in all the districts of Moscow for people to dive to mark Epiphany. Police and rescuers are on duty at the places to ensure safety.

No incidents have been reported. Nobody was hurt, the source said.

According to the Moscow police, about 165,000 people participated in Epiphany celebration in Moscow on the night to January 19. Last year, there were 120,000.

A police source said 3,500 Moscow policemen and members of voluntary public order squads ensured public order and security for citizens. There were no serious incidents.
