Moscow to support any venue where mediators’ sextet and Iran may meet

As long as there is no consensus on that score, the date of the next round of negotiations may be shifted

MOSCOW, January 17 (Itar-Tass) – Moscow is prepared to support any venue for a meeting between the sextet of international mediators and Iran, provided it suits all sides, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

“There is the common understanding that a full-fledged round of talks between the sextet of mediators and Iran must take place this month,” the Foreign Ministry said. “This is for certain, nobody questions that.”

“It is true that the dates the Iranian mass media have mentioned are being discussed,” the Foreign Ministry said. “They have drawn no fundamental objections. But there is no clarity as to the venue of the meeting.”

“We have said more than once that the place of the next round is not of fundamental importance. Moscow is prepared to agree to any option that suits everybody else,” the Foreign Ministry said. “As long as there is no consensus on that score, the date of the next round of negotiations may be shifted. Russia is worried over that. Active consultations are in progress. We are taking part in them and we hope that consent on the main technicalities will be achieved.”
