Putin signs decree to form state committee for run-up, holding of Sochi Olympics, Paralympics

Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak was appointed to head the committee

MOSCOW, January 15 (Itar-Tass) — Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree to form a state committee for the run-up and holding of the 22nd Winter Olympics and the 11th Winter Paralympics in Sochi in 2014. The corresponding document was posted at the Russian presidential website on Tuesday.

The president decreed “to form a state committee for the run-up and holding of the 22nd Winter Olympics and the 11th Winter Paralympics in Sochi in 2014.” Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak was appointed to head the committee.

The committee assumed “the functions to develop and approve the coordinated decisions on the run-up and holding of the 22nd Winter Olympics and the 11th Winter Paralympics by the federal executive authorities, executive authorities in Russian federal constituents, local self-government bodies, other bodies and organizations.”

The committee included several officials from the government and the presidential administration, as well as the heads of federal, regional and municipal authorities.
