NALCHIK, January 15 (Itar-Tass) — Alpinist from Moscow Artyom Ivanov, 23, died of a head wound rather than hypothermia.
“According to the preliminary reports, the young man has got a head wound in the falling that the bloody trace of about 10 metres long showed,” spokesman for the North Caucasus regional emergency situation centre Kantemir Davydov told Itar-Tass.
He said that the body of the young man is being delivered to Terskol.
Earlier head of the Elbrus highland search-and-rescue team of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Boris Tilov noted that “according to the preliminary reports, Ivanov died of hypothermia.”
Three alpinists from Moscow began the climbing on the western top of the Elbrus Mount without passing the sufficient climate adaptation. The rescuers believe that their mistake was a stop for the night at an altitude of 5,200 metres, where over the oxygen shortage the mountain sickness breaks out, and people are feeling euphoria and overestimate their forces.
Climber Anastasia Tyulkina, 21, was found safe and sound at an altitude of about 4,800 metres on January 11. She succeeded to get out from the hut in the saddle, where the mountaineers passed two cold nights, escaping from the bad weather, and began the descent from the mountain to find the help at the bottom of the mount. The young woman told the rescuers that head of the climbing team Artyom Ivanov is unconscious and his leg is presumably broken.
