ULAN-UDE, January 14 (Itar-Tass) — A policeman, who killed the detainee, was sentenced to eight years in the tough security penitentiary in the Russian republic of Buryatia.
“Former operative of the Barguzinsky police station Bair Dorzhiyev, 25, was found guilty of abuse of powers with the use of violence and weapons and was accused of murder,” the republican investigation department of the Russian Investigation Committee told Itar-Tass on Monday.
The detectives and the court found that in June 2011, staying in the Barguzinsky police station, Dorzhiyev has made a shot from his service gun in the head of the detainee, who was suspected of robbery. The latter died instantaneously.
“The convicted policeman was attempting to justify his actions with the forced self-defence. He has allegedly fired from the pistol after the suspect attacked him with the paper penknife. However, during the investigation this theory was not proved,” spokesman for the investigation department Dmitry Stolyarov said.
