Policeman suspected of murder detained in St. Petersburg

St. PETERSBURG, January 13 (Itar-Tass) - A 22-year old police sergeant and two of his accomplices have been detained They are suspected of murder and robbery, a source at the St Petersburg investigative department told Itar-Tass.

Investigators believe that the masked suspects attacked two young people in the Kirov district of St. Petersburg and tried to take away money and mobile phones from them. One young man tried to escape. The attackers stabbed him with a knife. The 26-year-old man died in hospital. The crime was committed near building 19, Dachny Prospect at about 02:00 Moscow time.

Artyom Nekrasov, an employee of the interior department of the Kirov district, Pavel Pupko, 22, and Evgeny Begloryan, 19, will face murder and robbery charges. Investigators will demand that they be taken into custody for the period of investigation.

In the meantime, police in St. Petersburg believes the suspects committed another street robbery in the same district that night.
