KRASNOYARSK, January 7 (Itar-Tass) — Two people were killed in a blast that ripped through a fuel and lubricants storage facility in Evenkia, the Krasnoyarsk territory in Russia’s Siberia, the regional emergencies department told Itar-Tass on Monday.

The blast followed by fire occurred in the village of Essei, the Evenkia district, at 12:25 local time (08:25 Moscow time). The accident took place on the territory of a storage facility owned by Evenkiyanefteproduct, while fuel was pumped from a petrol tanker to a fixed cistern.

“The fire that followed the blast destroyed two petrol tankers. There is no threat to the village and the lubricants storage facility. The accident will not affect the village’s life,” the source said.

Police said violation of the safety rules was a preliminary reason for the blast.

The fire was liquidated. An investigation is underway.

Essei is Evenkia’s northernmost village located above the Arctic Circle, where 631 villagers, mainly the ethnic minority of Essei Yakuts, reside.
