GORNO-ALTAISK, January 6 (Itar-Tass) — Four people were killed in a traffic accident on the Kyzyl-Teeli highway on Saturday. Three of them are policemen who were on duty, the Interior Ministry of the Tuva Republic specified.
The driver of a Honda Odyssey car – a 35-year old resident of the Teeli village drove into oncoming lane and made a head-on collision with the VAZ2107 police car on the 231st kilometre of the Kyzyl-Teeli highway at about 15:00, local time (11:00 MSK). Four people who were riding in the police service vehicle were killed on the spot. Three of them were police officers - an investigator, an inquiry officer and a driver. The fourth passenger was under investigation in a criminal case.
Eight people who were in the car of foreign make sustained injuries of varying severity and were taken to the central district hospital in the town of Chadan.
The leadership of the Interior Ministry of the Republic of Tuva went to the scene.
Head of the republic Sholban Kara-ool expressed deep condolences to the leadership the Tuvan police, as well as to the families and friends of the killed policemen. “It is difficult to perceive the information about the death of the guys. They were honestly performing their duties in their respective territories,” said Sholban Kara-ool. “But, unfortunately, a terrible accident cut short their lives. I express personally and on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Tuva deep condolences to the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tuva, Alexander Lobanov, as well as to the families and friends of the policemen.”
