VLADIVOSTOK, January 4 (Itar-Tass) — A spell of Christmas-time frosts hit Yakutia on the night from Thursday to Friday. ln eleven populated areas, air temperautres plunged to 50 degrees below zero, Celsius. An utterly withering frost has set in at the northern hemisphere's poles of cold -- at Oimyakon Settlement (minus 53 degrees) and in the city of Verkhoyanksk (52 degrees), Yakutia meteorologists report.
Frosts with air temperatures ranging from 40 to 49 degrees are keeping on in 21 inhabited localities of Yakutia, and only in six ones air temperatures range from 20 to 29 degrees below zero, which is "warm" by Yakutia's winter-time notions.
Biting frosts from 30 to 43 degrees are also experienced in Khabarovsk and Primorsky (maritime) Territories, in Amur Region, and in the Jewish Autonomous Region.
Meanwhile, it is only one degree below zero on the Komandorskiye (Commodore) Islands which are part of the Kamchatka Territory.
