SEOUL, January 3 (Itar-Tass) — The wife of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un may have given birth, the Yonhap news agency said on Thursday, analyzing the recent footage of the first lady where she looks much slimmer than in mid December.
Local analysts have come to the conclusion that Ri Sol Ju has given birth as earlier, in mid December, pictures of her “showed her face looking puffy and there was a noticeable swelling in her midsection,” the news agency said.
It quoted a government source saying condition of anonymity that “images of the Korean Central TV Broadcasting Station showed a slimmer Ri watching a live New Year’s performance with her husband and other high-ranking dignitaries”.
Meanwhile, Itar-Tass correspondent in Pyongyang Yuri Sidorov says North Korean media outlets have not reacted to reports saying that Kim Jong Un’s wife may have given birth. Last time she was seen in public together with her husband at a concert of popular Moranbong Band, staged on the occasion of the New Year’s Eve.
On July 25, 2012, media reports said the North Korean leader had married. According to the Korean Central News Agency, he appeared at a ceremony launching an amusement park in Pyongyang with his wife Ri Sol Ju. No other comments were made then.
It is not customary in North Korea to discuss the family life of the leaders and their wives. The wife of the founder of the country, Kim Il Sung, – Kim Jong Suk, “the Anti-Japanese Heroine” was the only exception.
