Special operation to detain man trying to blast Sberbank office underway in Yekaterinburg

As long as the man saw the police cars driving up to the bank office he escaped

YEKATERINBURG, December 29 (Itar-Tass) — The special operation is underway in Yekaterinburg to detain a man, who was seeking to blast an office of the Russian savings bank Sberbank, chief press officer of the Sverdlovsk police Valery Gorelykh told Itar-Tass on Saturday.

“The man came with the suspicious box in hands at 10:00 local time (08:00 Moscow time) on Saturday to the Sberbank office. The bank raider told the bank clerks that if they do not give the money to him, he will explode the bank office. The bank clerks did not get confused and pushed the alarm bottom,” Gorelykh said.

“As long as the man saw the police cars driving up to the bank office he escaped. Probably an object looking like the shakhid belt was planted on him along with the box. The special operation is on to detain him,” the regional police spokesman said, noting that the sappers are also involved in the special operation.
