MOSCOW, December 28 (Itar-Tass) — Russia is ready for a meeting with leader of Syria’s National coalition of Opposing and Revolutionary Forces Ahmed Moaz al-Khatib, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Friday.
“We have expressed readiness for a meeting with the Coalition’s leader,” the minister said. “They are not against it, either.”
Speaking about the political platform of the opposition, Lavrov said that the Russian side had been disappointed that “its political statement contains as a major objective overthrowing of the regime and rejection of a dialogue.”
The Russian foreign minister appreciated Egypt’s position as the country had been working with the Syrian opposition towards a political dialogue.
