VLADIVOSTOK, December 27 (Itar-Tass) —— Russia’s Alanet trawler, which is in the vicinity of South Kuril Islands, has sent a distress signal, Captain Alexander Kuvshinov from the Vladivostok sea port reported on Thursday.
According to Kuvshinov, the ship with 24 crewmembers onboard is in Japan’s zone of responsibility. Japanese rescuers are heading to help the ship.
The weather in the area is stormy, with four-meter waves and wind gusts of 15-18 meters per second.
The ship cannot move after its main engine failed.
The Alanet is owned by the Kamchatka-based company Kamchatrybprom.
