NALCHIK, December 25 (Itar-Tass) — Kabardino-Balkaria leader Arsen Kanokov held an emergency conference with law-enforcement officials to discuss the crime situation in the republic, following the murder of an academy rector, Kanokov's press service told Itar-Tass.
"We cannot put up with it. First they kill a young journalist, and now a university rector. The vigorous persons who were willing to work and bring good to the republic have died. A man was killed in broad daylight in his office. I demand that the persons guilty of this brutal crime be quickly found and punished," Kanokov stated.
He ordered the law-enforcement bodies to "adequately resist" the criminals and reminded that he would personally monitor the probe and will be waiting for the soonest results.
"The SK investigative bodies in Kabardino-Balkaria opened a criminal case over murder of rector of Kabardino-Balkaria's State Academy of Agriculture Boris Zherukov and illegal turnover of weapons," Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin told Tass earlier.
Two unidentified persons walked into his office at around 10:50, Moscow time, and fired shots at him. Zherukov died of his wounds on the spot, an official at the regional department of the Investigative Committee reported.
