PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, December 25 (Itar-Tass) —— The 35th garrison military court in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky will rule Tuesday on a measure of restraint to a serviceman, who rammed in his car in the group of people at the bus stop in the territorial centre on December 24, the military prosecutor’s office of the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky garrison told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.
The criminal case was opened against contract sergeant of the marine regiment of the Pacific Fleet Sergei Batenev, who knocked down several people at the bus stop. The military investigation department of the Russian Investigation Committee in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky is investigating the criminal case. The detectives asked the court to put the culprit of the road accident under arrest.
In the morning on December 24 during a heavy snowfall drunken Batenev lost control of the Toyota Chaser jeep and rammed in people waiting for a bus near the bus stop Krasnaya Sopka.
The emergency workers did not clear up the bus stop from snow, and absolutely unprotected people were standing right on the side of the slippery road. The uncontrolled car knocked down 11 people, inflicting heavy wounds to them. Seven people, including a six-year-old girl and a four-year-old boy, were hospitalized. The girl was already released from the hospital.
Four people, who were injured in a road accident at the bus stop in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in the morning on December 24, remain at the intensive therapy ward of the Kamchatka territorial hospital. A wounded woman, who got an open head injury, cannot get out from coma. The doctors keep fighting for her life. The life of other wounded people is out of danger, the hospital authorities told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.
Other two injured people with fractures are undergoing treatment at the territorial hospital, another two wounded people are being treated at the city hospital. A four-year-old boy, who also got injures in the road accident, is being treated at the territorial children’s hospital.
The Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky investigation department is conducting its own inquiry in the road accident. The negligence was found in the actions of the officials from the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Mayor’s Office and the road services that did not clear the snow from the bus stop timely, spokeswoman for investigation department Yelena Matafonova said.
