PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, December 25 (Itar-Tass) —— Four people, who were injured in a road accident at the bus stop in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in the morning on December 24, remain at the intensive therapy ward of the Kamchatka territorial hospital. A wounded woman, who got an open head injury, cannot get out from coma. The doctors keep fighting for her life. The life of other wounded people is out of danger, the hospital authorities told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.
Other two injured people with fractures are undergoing treatment at the territorial hospital, another two wounded people are being treated at the city hospital. A four-year-old boy, who also got injures in the road accident, is being treated at the territorial children’s hospital.
In the morning on December 24 during a heavy snowfall the drunken contract serviceman lost control of the Toyota Chaser jeep and rammed in people, who were waiting for a bus at the bus stop Krasnaya Sopka. The emergency workers did not clear up the bus stop from snow, and absolutely unprotected people were standing right on the side of the slippery road. The uncontrolled car knocked down 11 people, inflicting heavy wounds to them. Seven people, including a six-year-old girl and a four-year-old boy, were hospitalized. The girl was already released from the hospital.
The criminal case was opened against the culprit of the road accident. The military investigation department of the Russian Investigation Committee in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky is investigating the criminal case. Forensic expertises were scheduled to find the degree of harm to the health of the wounded people. The car of the culprit in the road accident was put on the guarded parking for the detailed investigation.
Sergeant of the contract service of the marine regiment of the Pacific Fleet Sergei Batenev, who smashed down people, was fired from the Armed Forces, the press service of the Eastern Military District reported earlier.
The Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky investigation department is conducting its own inquiry in the road accident. The negligence was found in the actions of the officials from the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Mayor’s Office and the road services that did not clear the snow from the bus stop timely.
Meanwhile, the local media conducted a poll among the city residents to find the current situation with the road cleanup and the removal of snow drifts. The calls are coming from different districts of the territorial centre that the road services fail to cope with their tasks. The bystreets are covered with snow drifts, the driveways to the residential houses are covered with snow, the walkways are snow packed and people have to walk right on the roadsides.
