PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, December 24 (Itar-Tass) — A pre-investigation check has been launched following a road accident in which a car hit a group of pedestrians waiting at a bus stop in Kamchatka’s main city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the regional department of the Russian Investigative Committee reports on Monday.
Eleven people got injured as a result, including two children. Pre-investigation checks are made because “elements of a crime envisaged in Article 293 of the Russian Criminal Code (negligence) are seen in actions of officials from the administration of the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky city district and road services that failed to ensure the timely cleanup of the bus stop,” its report said.
Specialists look into the road accident and “the decision on proceedings will be made on the results of the checks,” the investigation department reports.
According to the region’s chief police department, a drunk serviceman ploughed a Toyota Chaser into a group of pedestrians waiting for the bus at a snowbound bus stop at 7:50 am local time (23:50 pm Moscow time on December 23).
Eleven people were injured, and seven of them were hospitalized. Three people are in an intensive therapy ward in a grave condition.
