MOSCOW, December 23 (Itar-Tass) —— A criminal, who took hostage the female employees of the bank Trust in Kaluga turned out to be an unsuccessful businessman with big debts, the Russian Investigation Committee reported on Sunday.
Threatening with the gun and claiming for having an explosive device, a 46-year-old resident of the Medyn district, took hostage two female employees of the bank on Saturday afternoon at the bank office on the Victory Square in Kaluga. The third female employee managed to go up unnoticed on the second floor and inform about the hostage taking by phone. The hostage taker demanded 15 million roubles and a car, but the hostages were released and the man was injured in the leg in the special police operation.
“He was given the medical aid. According to the medical diagnosis the suspected bank raider can be kept at the detention centre. The man was detained. He is in an emotionally submissive condition and refused from testimony. According to the preliminary reports, the detainee was engaged in business activities, had big debts that made him commit the crime,” the Investigation Committee said.
The criminal case was opened under Article 206 Part 2 of the Criminal Code for hostage taking.
The scope of expertises was scheduled. The court will consider a request for putting the suspect in custody.
