Magnitsky Act poisons Russian-US relations, drags them into the past - Putin

"It is certainly an unfriendly act towards the Russian Federation," he said

MOSCOW, December 20 (Itar-Tass) — President Vladimir Putin said the adoption of the "Magnitsky Act" poisons Russian-US relations and drags them into the past. Putin made the statement at a news conference at Moscow's international trade center on Thursday.

"It is certainly an unfriendly act towards the Russian Federation," he said. In his opinion, it is not a matter of the officials who are forbidden to have certain accounts or must have their property under control. "We ourselves believe that our officials, especially high-ranking ones, the persons who engage in politics, should keep their accounts at Russian banks," Putin reminded.

"Russia has many banks with a 100-hundred percent foreign stake, and their reliability raises no doubts. If our colleagues help us expose the violators, we'll be thankful to them, we're even ready to award a bonus to them for it," the president said.

But it is absolutely not a matter of officials, the thing is that "they replace one anti-Soviet law with another," the head of state underlined, "they cannot do without it; they're trying to remain in the past. It's too bad. It poisons our relations in itself."
