Two fishermen in Astrakhan Reg saved from ice captivity

The fishermen sailed in a boat but the engine failed and they stuck among the blocks of ice

MOSCOW, December 19 (Itar-Tass) ——Two fishermen have been saved in the Astrakhan Region, who had spent 10 days in ice captivity in the Caspian Sea, ITAR-TASS was told on Wednesday by the regional department of the Ministry for Emergency Situations.

The fishermen sailed in a boat but the engine failed and they stuck among the blocks of ice. The men for more than a week have been trying to find a way via the isles of land to the spot where mobile communication worked, getting warm by a gas oven and feeding on fish they caught, the source in the Ministry for Emergencies said.

It was only on Monday that the fishermen managed to inform the Ministry for Emergencies of their whereabouts. The EMERCOM helicopter came and fetched them. Both men are now safe and sound.
