Six people injured by gas cylinder explosion in Mordovia

The roof partially collapsed on an area of 600 square metres because of the gas cylinder blast

NIZHNY NOVGOROD, December 19 (Itar-Tass) — Six people have been injured as a result of a gas cylinder explosion at a meat-packing plant in Mordovia, Oleg Zygeyev, head of the press service of the Volga regional center of the Russian Ministry for Emergencis (RME), has told Itar-Tass.

Zugeyev said the incident had occurred Wednesday at about one a. m. in a meat shop of a meat-packing plant which is located 45 km from Saransk. The roof partially collapsed on an area of 600 square metres because of the gas cylinder blast. There were 21 people in the shop at the moment of the blast. The six injured have been hospitalized.

A source at the Mordovia center of the RME told Itar-Tass that work to clear the rubble is currenlty under way at the site. RME specialists and rescue equipment are at work there, seeking to find out the cause of the incident.
