MOSCOW, December 18 (Itar-Tass) — Iran takes Russia as its strategic partner and calls for closer cooperation between the countries in various spheres, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said at a meeting with Vice-Speaker of the Federation Council Ilyas Umakhanov here on Tuesday.
“I would like to note that we have a strategic approach to cooperation with Russia. Our countries are cooperating in many spheres, we established good relations,” the Iranian deputy foreign minister said.
Meanwhile, “since the expectations in both countries are higher, this level of relations does not satisfy our leaders in Iran and Russia,” he went on to say.
The diplomat noted that the role of the Federation Council and other Russian authorities “is important for closer rapprochement of the countries.”
