MOSCOW, December 14 (Itar-Tass) — Moscow learned about the signing of the so-called Magnitsky Law by U.S. President Barack Obama with deep regret, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a commentary Friday.

“The U.S. President signed an odious law endorsed by the U.S. Congress and annulling the Jackson-Vanik amendment, which had long outlived itself, to the accompaniment of new sanctions against Russian citizens,” the commentary said. “This cynical tie-up cannot by cause revulsion.”

“If Washington thinks that the assigning of a normal trade regime to Russia can be exchanged for an overt interference in our domestic affairs, then this is a short-sighted and dangerous position,” the Foreign Ministry said.
