ROSTOV-ON-DON, December 14 (Itar-Tass) —— One million roubles will be paid from the regional budget to each of the families of the builders who died in the building collapse in Taganrog and 300,000 roubles to each of the injured people. The decision was taken by the Rostov Region's Governor Vasily Golubev on Friday. The governor visited the site overnight.
The Taganrog city administration will also provide 200,000 for each of the families and 50,000 for each of the injured people.
The three-storey building that was under construction collapsed on December 13. Thirteen people were rescued from the debris, and five people died in the collapse. The search and rescue work continued throughout the night and was completed on Friday morning.
The Rostov regional Health Ministry told Itar-Tass that seven of the injured builders were in grave condition. They are in an intensive care ward in the city hospital. The other six are under the care of doctors in the trauma treatment ward in the hospital.
The Russian Investigative Committee's regional department has opened a criminal case on charges of violation of the construction safety regulations, that caused deaths.
The contractor and the superintendent are detained as suspects. Construction documents are taken for the investigation. Workers are questioned.
Governor Golubev dismissed chief of the regional state construction supervision service Dmitry Pozdnev. The head of the region took the decision on Friday after the preliminary consideration of the collapse causes.
The mayor of Taganrog should take such decisions against local officials responsible for construction, Golubev believes.
