MOSCOW, December 13 (Itar-Tass) — Five people died and 11 were injured when a building under construction collapsed in Taganrog on Thursday evening, Marina Abramchenko, the press service chief of the Russian Emergencies Ministry department for the Rostov region, told Itar-Tass.
“The eleventh person was pulled out from under the rubble and taken to hospital,” she clarified.
Abramchenko said that sniffer dogs had inspected the rubble but didn’t find anybody. Heavy equipment began its work.
Abramchenko didn’t specify how many people could still be trapped under the rubble, though earlier Emergencies Ministry reports had put the number at nine.
A total of 296 rescuers and 59 equipment units are involved in the search and rescue effort.
