MOSCOW, December 14 (Itar-Tass) —— Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Friday will receive a delegation of the Syrian opposition Coalition of Forces for Peaceful Change, led by the leader of the Popular Front for Change and Liberation, Qadri Jamil.
The unification of opponents of the current regime in Damascus is one of the main conditions for ending bloodshed. As Jamil has told Itar-Tass, the coalition he represents regards the members of the Group of Syria’s Friends as the country’s enemies.
“The so-called friends of Syria are not friends, but enemies, who are interested in the internal intervention in the country’s affairs,” Jamil said. “The one who does not let the Syrian people address problems independently, the one who does not wish a peace settlement of the crisis and contributes to bloodshed and destruction of Syria cannot be a friend.”
The main task today, he said is cleaning the Opposition and the government of extremists.
“They are to be isolated, this would pave the way for national accord,” Jamil said.
About the rumors Damascus was prepared to use chemical weapons Jamil said that an information background for outside intervention was being created.
“It looks very much like a rerun of the Iraqi scenario, the legend there were weapons of mass destruction,” he said.
About the outlook for a dialogue between the government and the Opposition Jamil said “it is extremely necessary, because this is the sole way out of the crisis.”
The Popular Front for Change and Liberation and the Coalition of Forces for Peaceful Change are prepared for a dialogue with the government, Jamil said. Asked about whether Bashar Assad would have to resign for such a dialogue to begin Jamil replied that his movement was not putting forward any preconditions.
